Danielle Hatchell, LCPC Black Therapist in Maryland specializing in grief therapy, spiritual counseling, highly sensitive persons, anxiety, and relationships.

Welcome — I’m so glad you’re here

You’ve been doing all the things to work through your anxiety — therapy, journaling, praying, exercising, talking to friends — yet somehow, nothing seems to stick. You might have moments of peace or bursts of motivation, but they don’t last. The same thoughts and feelings find their way back in, leaving you wondering if something’s wrong with you or if peace is even possible.

The truth is, there’s nothing wrong with you. What you’re experiencing is a sign that your healing needs a deeper kind of support — one that honors who you are at your core.

Finding the right therapist can be life-changing. Someone who doesn’t just listen, but truly sees you. Someone who understands what it’s like to live with anxiety, fear, and the pressure to always hold things together. Someone who offers you the space to breathe and supports you in learning how to trust yourself again.

And if you’re a person of color, you may be longing for something more — a therapist who understands how your identity, culture, faith, and lived experiences intersect with your emotional well-being.

That’s where I come in.

A Safe Space for Your Full Self

Hey, I’m Danielle Hatchell, LCPC, and as a Black therapist in Maryland, I understand the unique challenges that come with navigating the world while carrying the weight of expectations, both spoken and unspoken. There’s often an invisible pressure to perform, to be “strong,” to push through — even when you’re exhausted.

You may have learned early on that you had to hold everything in, keep your emotions in check, and make others comfortable — even at your own expense. Maybe you’ve been told you’re too sensitive, too emotional, too much. Or perhaps you’ve been praised for your ability to handle everything on your own — even though inside, you’re running on fumes.

This is your space to be your authentic self. Here, you don’t have to shrink or explain yourself. You can take off the mask, exhale, and just be.

This is a safe and affirming space for Black, Brown, and multicultural individuals — a place where your identity is not only respected but celebrated. I see you, and I get it.

My Approach to Counseling in Maryland

I’ve spent over 25 years supporting anxious, high-achieving, and sensitive souls who want to better understand themselves and create lives that feel authentic, peaceful, and free. My background in psychology, human growth and development, and ministry allows me to approach counseling from a holistic, spirit-led perspective.

I believe that true healing honors every part of you — mind, body, and spirit. So, our work together might include exploring thought patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you, understanding how your nervous system responds to stress, and learning grounding techniques that restore your peace.

But it also means connecting with your inner wisdom, cultivating faith in yourself and in something greater, and finding spiritual practices that align with your beliefs.

Whether you come to therapy feeling anxious, disconnected, burned out, or unsure of your next steps, our sessions will be guided by compassion and curiosity. I’ll support you in uncovering the root of your struggles and learning tools to help you move forward with more ease and clarity.

Spirit-Led, Heart-Centered Healing

In addition to my work as a therapist, I am an ordained Minister of Spiritual Consciousness, which means I’ve spent years studying the intersection of psychology and spirituality — how our thoughts, beliefs, and energetic patterns shape our experiences.

For many of my clients, faith plays an important role in healing, even if they’re not sure what that faith looks like anymore. Together, we can explore what spirituality means for you — whether it’s prayer, meditation, energy work, or simply reconnecting with your breath and intuition.

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all healing. My role is to support you in finding what feels true and aligned for you. Some sessions may feel deeply reflective, while others may feel practical and action-oriented. Sometimes you’ll cry. Sometimes you’ll laugh. Sometimes you’ll just sit in stillness — and that’s sacred, too.

Our work is about remembering that you are whole, even when life feels messy.

What It’s Like to Work Together

In our sessions, you can expect warmth, openness, and authenticity. My clients often tell me they appreciate that I don’t “just sit and nod.” I engage, I listen deeply, and I share reflections that invite you to see yourself through a more compassionate lens.

We’ll look at how anxiety shows up in your life — whether it’s overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or difficulty setting boundaries. We’ll explore where those patterns began and how you can start shifting them.

You’ll learn practical tools to manage your energy and emotions in real time, along with spiritual principles that help you stay centered when life feels uncertain.

Most importantly, I’ll remind you that healing isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about coming home to yourself — again and again.

A Bit About Me

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a lover of all things that bring me back to nature and simplicity. My garden is one of my greatest teachers. Each season, I experiment with growing watermelon, cucumbers, and tomatoes. I’m still learning — and sometimes things don’t grow the way I expect — but there’s something about planting seeds, tending to them, and watching them thrive that fills me with peace. Gardening reminds me that growth takes time, patience, and care — the same qualities we cultivate in therapy.

Another joy of my life right now is learning to play the piano. There’s something beautifully humbling about starting something new as an adult — hitting the wrong notes, practicing the same song over and over, and celebrating small victories along the way. It’s a practice in presence, and it teaches me daily about grace, rhythm, and joy.

When I’m not in the garden or at the piano, you’ll often find me walking in nature, reading something that nourishes my soul, or spending time with my family. I find that joy lives in the quiet, ordinary moments — the morning light through the trees, the first sip of coffee, the laughter shared around a dinner table.

My Counseling Philosophy

I believe healing is a partnership. You bring your story, your strengths, and your willingness to grow. I bring my expertise, intuition, and compassion. Together, we co-create a space where change becomes possible.

As a Black therapist in Maryland, I understand the cultural nuances of healing — how generational patterns, unspoken expectations, and cultural values shape the way we cope. I also know the importance of representation — of being in a space where you can see yourself reflected and know that you’re not alone in what you’re carrying.

My work is guided by three core values: authenticity, compassion, and growth.

Authenticity means you get to show up as your full self — no masks, no pretense.
Compassion means we approach your struggles without judgment, only curiosity and care.
Growth means trusting that healing is not linear, but every step forward counts.

Who I Work With

I support adults who are ready to break free from anxiety, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals who appear successful on the outside but feel disconnected or unfulfilled inside. Others are sensitive souls or empaths who absorb the energy of others and struggle to stay grounded.

Some come to therapy after a major life transition — a breakup, career change, or spiritual awakening — while others arrive simply feeling lost and unsure of what’s next. No matter where you are on your journey, you are welcome here.

I also work with clients who want to integrate spirituality into their healing process. Whether your background is religious, spiritual-but-not-religious, or somewhere in between, I meet you where you are.

Why Representation Matters

For many people of color, therapy hasn’t always felt like a welcoming space. Historical and cultural stigmas, lack of representation, and experiences of being misunderstood can make it hard to reach out for support.

As a Black therapist in Maryland, I am committed to changing that narrative. My goal is to make therapy a safe, affirming, and empowering experience — one that honors your story and your strength. You deserve a space where you can be fully seen, heard, and supported.

Representation matters because it helps us feel safe enough to be vulnerable. When you sit across from someone who looks like you, who understands your cultural context and unspoken experiences, it makes room for deeper healing.

My Professional Background

I hold advanced training in psychology, counseling, and spiritual development, and I’ve spent over two decades walking alongside individuals on their path toward greater emotional freedom and self-awareness. I’ve worked with clients in private practice, community organizations, and spiritual settings, blending traditional therapeutic methods with holistic, spirit-centered approaches.

As a Minister of Spiritual Consciousness, my work integrates faith-based wisdom with evidence-based counseling practices. This allows me to meet clients on both psychological and spiritual levels — helping them uncover limiting beliefs, release emotional burdens, and reconnect with their inner truth.

My style is grounded, compassionate, and intuitive. I listen deeply. I ask meaningful questions. And I hold space for your story with both professional insight and human understanding.

What Therapy Makes Possible

I often tell my clients that therapy is not just about solving problems — it’s about remembering who you are. It’s about reconnecting with the parts of yourself that you may have buried beneath expectations, responsibilities, or fear.

Healing is not about becoming someone new; it’s about coming home to the person you’ve always been.

Through counseling in Maryland, I support you in:

  • Reducing anxiety and overthinking

  • Building emotional resilience

  • Strengthening self-trust and confidence

  • Setting healthy boundaries

  • Integrating spirituality into your healing process

  • Creating a more balanced, joy-filled life

If you’ve been searching for a Black therapist in Maryland who brings both professional expertise and heartfelt compassion to the process of healing, I’d be honored to walk with you. My approach is gentle yet grounded — practical, but deeply spiritual.

Together, we’ll create a space where you can breathe again, rediscover your strength, and begin to live from a place of peace and authenticity.

You don’t have to do this alone. Healing begins the moment you decide you deserve support — and you do.
